Questions people ask me
Including the ones with awkward answers. If what you’re wondering isn’t here, email me and I’ll answer it straight.
Financial coaching is a partnership focused on behaviour change and personalized strategy. Unlike a financial advisor who manages investments, I focus on helping you gain control over your spending, eliminate debt, and build wealth using proven principles, primarily the Ramsey Baby Steps. I provide accountability, education and support.
The Baby Steps are a seven-step plan for achieving financial peace. They start with building a starter emergency fund (Step 1) and paying off debt (Step 2), and progress all the way through investing for retirement and building wealth (Step 7). My coaching is structured to guide you through all seven.
Absolutely not. I believe in hard work and smart strategy. My coaching is based on time-tested principles that require commitment and consistency from you. I focus on building lasting habits, not quick fixes.
It’s a judgment-free, 30-minute session where we:
- Get to know each other and talk through your financial goals.
- Walk through how coaching works and how the Baby Steps fit your situation.
- Take a quick look at your current finances to map out your path and work out which Baby Step you’re on.
No. The initial consultation is free.
It’s a no-obligation chance for us to get to know each other, for me to explain how coaching works, and for you to decide whether I’m the right coach for you and whether you’re ready to make the commitment. You should feel confident before you sign up for anything.
Yes, absolutely. Financial success is a team sport, and being on the same page is the single biggest factor in moving quickly and effectively through the Baby Steps. I strongly encourage both partners to attend.
This comes up often, and I’ll be upfront about how I work. The most lasting financial changes happen when both partners are unified and committed.
So I currently only take on clients where both partners are ready and willing to take an active part. That means both of you at the initial consultation and at the check-in sessions.
My advice is to take the time to talk the plan through together first. When you’re both ready to move forward as a united front, I’d be glad to hear from you.
Coaching probably isn’t for you if:
- You’re looking for specific investment or stock market advice. For that you need a licensed financial advisor.
- You aren’t willing to change your spending habits or work a budget.
- You’re looking for a quick fix or a handout.
It’s likely a good fit if:
- You’re tired of debt and ready to make a serious commitment to change.
- You’re willing to be coachable, transparent, and follow a structured plan.
- You’re committed to seeing the Baby Steps through to Step 7.
- You want accountability and guidance to keep you motivated.
You absolutely can start on your own, and plenty of people do. What I add is help finishing them faster and staying committed through the tough spots:
- Accountability. It’s easier to stick to a tough budget or debt plan when you know a check-in is coming.
- Momentum and speed. I help you maximize your Debt Snowball, navigate unexpected expenses, and prioritize the right step at the right time, which saves you both time and money.
- Custom strategy. The steps are simple; your financial life isn’t. I apply them to your income, your debts and your goals.
- Support. This can be frustrating and isolating. I offer non-judgmental support, help you work through money disagreements with your partner, and celebrate every win along the way.
I ask for 24 hours’ notice to reschedule a session at no charge. Cancellations inside 24 hours, and missed sessions, are forfeited, or count as one of the sessions in your package.
Three months is my recommended minimum. That’s roughly how long it takes for a new budget to stop feeling like a diet and start feeling normal. We can adjust from there by mutual agreement.
Pathway Financial provides financial coaching: education, accountability, and guidance. It is not licensed financial planning, investment, tax, or legal advice, and I don’t sell or recommend financial products.
